Chocolate Mint Snowballs - A Twist on Hershey's Christmas Classic

‘Tis the season to eat cookies! I try to restrain myself from gobbling down decadent holiday treats loaded with butter, nuts, chocolate and other various fattening ingredients. Therefore, I always keep the word moderation in mind and walk a couple extra miles with my dog to keep the calories from sneaking up on me. Even my 11 year old daughter stated “can you please stop baking, it’s too hard to resist”. I do try and share with neighbors and friends to decrease our household consumption.

This chocolate mint snowball is incredibly easy to make and completely tastes and looks like it’s homemade. As a variation of a classic cookie on the Hershey web site, this treat holds it’s own. The web site’s cookie came out perfectly cylindrical and the Hershey Kiss center kept its shape beautifully. Mine on the other hand are a bit flat and the kisses mostly melted. However, that does not affect its bright peppermint flavor, enhanced by rich chocolate cookie and chocolate chunks. This fresh baked creation is finished off perfectly with some candy cane crunch that adds a real minty bite. It’s definitely a keeper for holiday seasons to come.

Chocolate Mint Snowballs
36 cookies

1 pouch Betty Crocker chocolate chunk cookie mix
¼ cup all purpose flour
½ cup butter, melted
1 egg
½ teaspoon mint extract
36 Chocolate Mint Truffle Hershey Kisses
½ cup powdered sugar
6 small candy canes, crushed with hammer

Heat oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl stir cookie mix, flour, butter, egg and mint extract until a soft dough forms.

Shape dough into 1” balls and wrap each around a chocolate mint kiss. Place 1” apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 10 minutes or until set. Immediately remove from cookie sheet and cool 5 minutes. Roll cookies in powdered sugar and sprinkle with candy cane crunch.
