Kit Kat Brownies

Did you ever wish for a perfume that smelled of butter and chocolate baking?  I mean surely Bath and Body could come up with something slightly similar.  Breathing in that beautiful aroma wafting from your oven is truly magical.  It reminds me of home, childhood, holidays, birthdays and all other kinds of wonderful occasions.  The scent is so vivid it feels as if you've taken a bite.

This perfect combination baked away in my kitchen a couple of weeks ago, and I am just getting the time to write about it post Thanksgiving, kids out., etc..  I adapted a Food Network Candy Bar Brownie recipe to include just Kit Kats.  This basic batter has a lot of chocolate, sugar, egg, butter and just a bit of flour.  This creates a chewy, moist, dense brownie that melts in your mouth on contact.  It’s heavenly.  Sandwich in some Kit Kats for crunch and extra chocolatey goodness (my kids got the mother load while trick or treating).

These brownies won’t last long.  Just a small square creates a giddy, happy feeling that perks up your whole day (I think chocolate has dopamine or serotonin or something that helps produce endorphins!).  To minimize calories you can wrap these up in a big red bow and share with friends and family – the season of giving is upon us!

Kit Kat Brownies

Yield: 12 brownies
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter (plus extra for greasing pan)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 5 fun size Kit Kats
Cooking Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Grease a 9 by 9 glass or non stick cake pan with butter.
  3. Beat the butter and sugar together in a large bowl until blended. Beat in the eggs 1 at a time then stie in water and vanilla. Sprinkle the salt and baking powder over the mixture, then mix in. Do the same with cocoa. Finally stir in flour until just blended.
  4. Pour 2/3 of batter into prepared pan. Line individual kit kats on top of batter. Pour the rest of batter on top to cover candy bars completely.
  5. Bake for 30 - 35 minutes until the center is set and the top cracks a bit.
  6. Cool before cutting.

  1. Wow, this is truly decadent. All the fancy cookies at holiday time are great, but brownies are always my favorite.
